    Zebra Design Beaded Necklace

Wild designs with zebra striped beads of various shapes. Before you click ADD to CART, you may want to know how I made the various striped patterns and different shapes of the black and white polymer brightly glazed beads. So here is how I did it.

I stacked alternate sheets of black and white polymer clay in different thicknesses in a sufficient length to roll them up into a jelly roll. I reduced the diameter of the roll, lengthening it in the process, of course. I saw to my satisfaction that I had plenty of material ready to shape a variety of beads.

I sliced the length of clay log for the focal bead a bit thicker than the slices for the smaller beads so that I could flatten it quite thin, causing the oval designs to be stretched into organically developed patterns. I picked up my straw for wrapping clay beads and wound the length of thin clay around and around the straw. Polymer clay attracts itself, so no glue is necessary. I smoothed the ends against the clay wound around the plastic thin cocktail straw.

I cut the remainder of the log in different lengths and shaped them into various sizes and shapes, sometimes rolling them in my palms and for others, I sculpted their shapes with my fingers. Some of them I wound around the cocktail straw and others turned out better when I simply pierced them after forming them in my palms or by my fingers.

I baked them at the correct temperature for more than an hour, then doused them into a cold water bath to cure them even smoother and denser.

After drying for some days, I buffed them with fine grit fabric. Then I glazed them with three layers of polymer clay compatible clear finish. After each layer, I waited many hours, usually overnight or all day before I put on another layer. I live in a warm, dry climate, so it does not take much time to dry anything, including my skin! The beads are very durable. They resemble glazed ceramic pottery on the surface, but they are much less breakable. You might need a hammer for that purpose.

Then it was time to decide how I wanted to string these attractive beads into an African style necklace with zebra striped wrap around beads, a popular way to make beads in West Africa.

I decided that red and silver would be the perfect completion for this necklace, so I strung them with some of the more casually cut red Pacific coral that I keep around. I used silver plated zinc beads and the same material for the ornate fastener.

If you request it, I will attach a small tab of stamped polymer clay logo signature of Polly Ceramica to the chain near the clasp. Please contact me and give me that instruction, either through the message block in the check-out process at my website or on the Paypal or Amazon invoices.

All my listings are guaranteed to please. There is a bonus for you buyers of my Polly Ceramica designs.
